Terms and Conditions

Part A is the agreement between you and iAB when you register for a programme. Part B applies to anyone using this website. Where they differ on the same subject, Part A governs the student relationship.

Part A

Student Terms and Conditions

1. Contracting Party

Your contract is with Insurance Academy of Botswana (Pty) Ltd, company registration BW0000132853, of Lot 102, Unit 1, Light Industrial Commerce Park, Gaborone, Botswana. Telephone +267 311 7200. Email registrations@iab.co.bw. This Part applies once you apply for, or register on, an iAB programme.

2. Eligibility and Admission

Admission is at iAB's discretion and depends on you meeting the entry requirements for your chosen programme and providing the required documents. Submitting an application does not guarantee a place, and we will tell you the outcome. You must give us information that is accurate and complete, and tell us if it changes. Giving false or misleading information, or submitting a document that is not genuine, may lead to your application being refused, your registration being cancelled, or disciplinary action, and may be reported to the relevant authority where the law requires it.

3. Registration

To complete registration iAB requires: (1) a copy of your Omang or passport; (2) a certified copy of your BGCSE certificate or equivalent showing passes in English and Mathematics. If you do not have passes in Mathematics and/or English but have completed a Diploma or Degree, provide a copy of that qualification and iAB will consider an exemption from the English and Mathematics requirement; (3) your signed or electronically accepted iAB Terms and Conditions; and (4) proof of payment of at least the first instalment.

4. Programme and Intake

You register for one programme, in one intake, in one study mode. You may study only one iAB programme in the same intake. You are responsible for checking the examination date for your intake before you register and for making yourself available for it.

5. Programme Delivery

5.1 Delivery and materials

Programmes run over twelve weeks and are delivered by distance or online learning, or in class, according to the study mode you chose. Study materials are included in the fee. We will deliver your programme with reasonable care and skill.

5.2 Changes and cancellation by iAB

We may need to change a class time, a venue, a lecturer or a delivery method. Where a change is material we will tell you as soon as we reasonably can. If we cancel a programme before it commences, or cannot deliver it at all, we will offer you a place in another intake or a refund of the fees you have paid for that programme, at your choice.

6. Fees and Payment

6.1 Course Fees

The fee for distance or online study is P2,250, and for in-class study P4,800. Study materials are included. A reassessment attempt costs P800. Fees are stated on the fees page and confirmed to you when you apply. Your fee is the fee for the intake you register in.

6.2 Registration and Administration Component

P400 of your first instalment is a registration and administration component. It covers the cost of processing your application, verifying your documents and setting up your registration, which we incur whether or not you go on to study. Subject to any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law, including the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act and the Consumer Protection Act, this component is not refundable. Where a statutory cancellation or cooling-off right applies, that right takes precedence.

6.3 Easy Payment Plan

You may pay in full, or in three instalments of P750 for distance or online study, or P1,600 for in-class study. The Easy Payment Plan is a way of spreading payment of the total course price. It is not a subscription and it is not payment for the parts of the course you happen to use. Choosing it does not reduce what you owe, and stopping your studies does not automatically cancel the instalments that have not yet fallen due.

6.4 Payment Due Dates

Your first instalment confirms your place. The remaining instalments are due by the 7th calendar day of the applicable month.

6.5 Late Payment

If an instalment is not paid by its due date, a late payment fee of P100 per month applies for each overdue instalment, for as long as it remains overdue.

6.6 Non-Payment

If your account is in arrears we will contact you first, and give you a reasonable opportunity to pay or to agree an arrangement. If it remains overdue we may, to the extent the law allows and after appropriate notice: suspend your access to myiAB while the amount is outstanding; withhold your results; withhold your certificate; refer the account to an external debt-collection agency; and take legal proceedings to recover it. Where our contract and the law permit, we may claim reasonable and lawful costs of recovery. We will not use harassment, coercion or unfair tactics.

7. Withdrawal and Cancellation

7.1 Cancelling your registration

You may ask to cancel your registration at any time by writing to us. What you are entitled to depends on when you ask, and on any statutory cancellation right that applies to you.

7.2 Liability after commencement

Subject to any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law, including the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act and the Consumer Protection Act, once you are registered and your course has commenced you are liable for the full course fee, whether or not you attend classes, access all of the online materials, complete the assignments, sit the examination, withdraw, or simply stop taking part. Attendance is not what creates the liability. Your registration and the commencement of the course are.

7.3 Deferral

Where iAB offers deferral to a later intake, it is at our discretion, may be subject to an administration charge published at the time, and does not by itself reduce or cancel fees already due.

8. Refunds

Refunds, statutory cancellation rights, and applications on the grounds of extraordinary circumstances are governed by the iAB Refund and Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these Terms. Nothing in these Terms removes a cancellation or refund right you have under Botswana law and which cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Assessment and Examinations

Your mark is made up of continuous assessment and a final examination, in the proportions published on our programme pages. You are responsible for submitting assignments by their due dates and for attending the final examination on the published date for your intake. A reassessment attempt is available at a fee of P800.

10. Academic Integrity and Conduct

10.1 Academic integrity

Your work must be your own. Plagiarism, collusion, contract cheating, and cheating in an examination are breaches of these Terms and are dealt with under the iAB Plagiarism Policy and Student Disciplinary Code. Outcomes can include a mark of zero, failure of the assessment, or exclusion, according to the seriousness of the case and after a fair process.

10.2 Conduct

You agree to behave respectfully towards other students, staff, lecturers and invigilators, in class, online and at examination venues, and to follow the iAB Student Disciplinary Code. Serious or repeated misconduct may lead to exclusion, following a fair process.

11. Online Access

Where your programme includes access to myiAB, your login is personal to you. Do not share your credentials or your access. We may suspend access to protect the security of the platform, or where your fee account is in arrears as set out above.

12. Results and Certificates

Results are released after assessment and moderation. Certificates are issued by iAB on successful completion. We may withhold results or a certificate while fees remain outstanding, to the extent the law allows and after appropriate notice.

13. Student Property and Damage

Please look after your belongings. iAB is not responsible for loss of or damage to your property brought onto our premises or to a training or examination venue, except where the loss results from our own negligence or from a liability we cannot lawfully exclude. If you damage iAB property, or the property of a venue or a third party, through your own act or omission, you are responsible for the reasonable cost of putting it right.

14. Course Materials and Intellectual Property

Course materials are provided for your own study on your registered programme. iAB or its licensors own the copyright in them. You may not copy, publish, resell, upload or distribute them, or use them to teach others, without our written permission.

15. Data Protection

We process your personal information as described in our Privacy Notice and our Document Upload Privacy Notice, under Botswana's Data Protection Act, 2024.

16. Communications

We will contact you using the details you gave us; please keep them up to date. If something goes wrong, tell us at info@iab.co.bw and we will look into it and respond. Raising a complaint does not affect your statutory rights.

17. Liability

We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Subject to that, we are not liable for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable, or for business losses such as loss of profit, income or opportunity. Nothing in these Terms takes away any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other applicable law.

18. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms for legal or regulatory reasons, to reflect changes in how our programmes are delivered or administered, or to correct or clarify something. We will not change them arbitrarily. Where a change materially affects students who are already registered we will give reasonable notice and explain what has changed. The version that applies to your enrolment is the version recorded when you accepted it, and a change will not retrospectively remove a right you have already accrued unless the law requires it. Where the law requires an immediate change, it takes effect as the law requires.

19. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Botswana, and the courts of Botswana have jurisdiction over any dispute. This does not deprive you of the protection of any law that applies to you and cannot be excluded by agreement.

Part B

Website Terms of Use

21. Website Access

This Part applies to your use of this website, whether or not you apply for a programme. You may use the website to find out about our programmes, to apply, and to check the status of an application. Access is provided free of charge and we may change or withdraw any part of it.

22. Intellectual Property

The content, design, text, images and the iAB name and mark on this website belong to iAB or its licensors. You may read and print pages for your own use. You may not republish them or use them commercially without our permission.

23. Acceptable Use

Please do not misuse this website. Do not attempt to gain unauthorised access to it or to any system behind it, interfere with its operation, run automated scraping that places an unreasonable load on it, or use it for anything unlawful.

25. Availability

We aim to keep the website available but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend it for maintenance or for security reasons, and we are not liable for loss arising from it being unavailable.

26. Disclaimer

We take care to keep programme, fee and intake information accurate and current. Where the website and the terms confirmed to you when you registered differ, the terms confirmed at registration apply to your enrolment. Nothing on this website is professional, financial or legal advice.
